A fair and equal tax system:
funding guidelines and process
About the funding round
Tripple and the Reichstein Foundation are welcoming expressions of interest from organisations and communities working to create a fairer and more equitable tax system in Australia.
A fair and balanced tax system is essential for reducing entrenched economic inequality, which is a major driver of political instability, human rights violations, and climate vulnerability. By ensuring resources are distributed more equitably, a fair tax system helps build a world where everyone has the opportunity to lead a good life. It can also ensure the government can fund vital services like health, education, and aged care—building a stronger, more equitable society for everyone.
However, Australia’s current tax system is outdated and often resistant to change. Even modest changes are regularly thwarted by well-resourced vested interests. We are looking to support initiatives that will rebalance our tax system towards fairness, equality and justice.
We invite expressions of interest of up to 200 words from organisations and communities committed to this important work. We know that lengthy grant applications can be a burden, so we’ve kept the process simple.
Details are below or you can click here to go directly to the short expression of interest form.
What we’re funding
Tripple and the Reichstein Foundation will support initiatives like (your work should include at least one of the following):
Organising, advocacy and campaigns: organising, advocacy and campaigning to achieve a fair and equal tax system for Australia, including tax reforms tied to specific issues such as housing, climate, or cost of living.
Collaboration: creating and strengthening the networks and infrastructure to facilitate effective collaboration between those working to achieve a fair and equal tax system.
Narrative shifting: public information campaigns, nonprofit journalism, messaging development, and research that challenge outdated or dis and misinformative narratives about tax.
Capacity building: Strengthening the capability and capacity of diverse organisations and individuals working to transform our tax system.
Addressing equity and injustice: We are committed to ensuring that those most affected by an unfair tax system are empowered to shape its reform. We value the leadership, knowledge and expertise of those directly impacted by economic injustice, including people on low incomes and groups disproportionately affected by inequality. This includes women, young people, First Nations peoples, people of colour, migrants, refugees and people seeking asylum, and people with disabilities.
Activities we aren’t funding:
Initiatives that deliver or provide services, including financial services and financial education
Academic research
Eligibility
Activities must primarily take place in Australia.
Organisations need to be not-for-profit but do not need to be registered on the ACNC.
We prefer that organisations are a registered legal entity, however we recognise that in some circumstances that is not possible due to visa status and/or regulatory requirements. If this is the case, please email or call Tripple’s Head of Philanthropy at tracey@tripple.com.au 0413065253 to chat through eligibility.
Australia’s current DGR registration and categorisation creates barriers and excludes many organisations working in advocacy, as such recipients do not need to hold DGR status.
Grant amounts
The total funding pool available is $300,000.
We fund flexibly and the exact grant sizes will be determined based on the applicants and project need, however we expect to grant:
3-5 grants of $40,000-$80,000
1-2 grants of $10,000-$30,000
Organisations can submit multiple EOI’s for different relevant projects/areas of work. However, we will only shortlist and fund one project/area of work per organisation, so we encourage you to submit the work you’d like to prioritise.
We welcome collaborative applications. If a collaborative application is shortlisted, organisations in the coalition will not be precluded from being shortlisted for their individual applications.
We encourage all applicants to factor in core costs, including wellbeing, safety and sustainability costs in funding requests.

If you are not shortlisted we will let you know by the end of March.
If you are successful, what happens next?

We have a meeting at the completion of the funding period to share learnings, reflections, impact, challenges, and your next steps.
We don’t require written acquittal or progress reports at any stage, although we welcome updates on your work if and when it works for you.
